ARW Bench refurbished – Llanbadoc
In 1988 Llanbadoc Community Council installed a metal bench on the riverbank of the Usk in Llanbadoc, opposite the house where Alfred Russel Wallace was born.
Alfred Russel Wallace was a self-taught scientist and social-reformer who worked with Charles Darwin on the theory of evolution. He was born in Llanbadoc in Kensington Cottage (seen in the background) in 1823 and was one of the originating authors of the theory of Evolution in 1858.
This year LCC looked to have the bench restored as it was looking tired, when reaching out to local companies, Fitzgerald Plant Services in Cwmbran kindly offered to take the bench away, clean it down, powder coat it and re-install it on the concrete plinth.
The bench has now been returned and looks brand new, LCC would like to thank everyone at Fitzgerald Plant Hire for their hard work in restoring this community asset. A plaque will be installed on the back of the bench to commemorate this kindness, particularly to Parts Manager Mark Lloyd for organising the project with us.
