Volunteers Needed for Social Afternoons at Usk Food Kitchen
The Food Kitchen in Usk supports those in need in the Usk and Llanbadoc area. So far over 3,700 hot, nutritious and tasty meals have been cooked and delivered along with over 650 food parcels. The Food Kitchen operates two lunchtimes each week with a rota of 23+ volunteers. It regularly supports at least 40 people.
Loneliness and isolation are considerable issues for the elderly in Usk. Last summer the idea was born to offer social afternoon sessions in the hall for customers when the pandemic subsided. They could have lunch together followed by activities such as cards/board games, films, help with IT or just a chat and cup of tea. Social Services have offered to provide transport where necessary. Residents views have been sought and they think it is a great idea.
The Food Kitchen hope to offer social afternoons from the autumn and would like the whole community to be involved in organising and running these events.
